Dr. Shawn P. McElmurry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit. He received his PhD in Environmental Engineering from Michigan State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan. Dr. McElmurry teaches graduate and undergraduate courses focused on environmental engineering and water systems. His research aims to address fundamental gaps in understanding that inhibit sustainable development and adversely affect human health, with a special interest in water infrastructure. Dr. McElmurry has experience leading large multidisciplinary research teams. Currently, he is co-leader of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) supported WHIRL project. The Water and Health Infrastructure Resilience and Learning project is a multi-institutional collaboration that aims to understand interdependencies between drinking water and public health systems in order to enhance resilience and reduce drinking-water related public health crises.
