Michael Ayres has over 10 years’ experience as an emergency manager and strategic planner with the U.S Dept of Health & Human Services’ Division of Strategic National Stockpile (DSNS). As an operational planning trainer/consultant for the DSNS international medical countermeasure (MCM) supply chain team, Mr. Ayres advises public health leaders in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) on MCM operations and supply chain planning for public health emergencies. Mr. Ayres also trains and provides technical assistance to key host country planners to help build public health MCM response capabilities under the Global Health Security Agenda and associated Joint External Evaluation technical areas implementing the World Health Organization’s International Health Regulations. To date, Mr. Ayres has coordinated the execution of MCM training/technical assistance and capacity building activities in eight LMIC partner countries with total population of over 425 million, including facilitated in-country MCM training workshops for over 175 national, regional and local public health planners/logisticians. Mr. Ayres has also facilitated MCM training workshops for 85 public health emergency managers from 31 African and Asian countries, supporting CDC’s twice-yearly Public Health Emergency Management Fellows program. In addition, Mr. Ayres deployed to West Africa to provide logistics support to CDC’s Ebola Response, and is a rostered responder for DSNS response operations and for CDC’s Global Rapid Response Team.
