Emergency Logistics Coordinator
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health
Emergency management within the health and medical environment has been my career focus for the past 15 years, all of which were while with L.A. County DPH. My duties include planning and response, especially for logistics operations and deployment of Medical Countermeasures (MCM) for health-medical surge and/or Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. I have been both an emergency responder and a member of regional planning teams for disasters, such as disease outbreaks, earthquakes, mass fatality incidents, and mass care. My job title is Emergency Logistics Coordinator.
I previously worked for LAPD for 30 years, and retired as a Detective Captain. I am a court qualified security expert and have taught security courses. Due to this previous experience, I am my agency's SME for Asctve Shooter Preparedness and Response, and have been the lead instructor for our half-day course since January 2016.
On multiple occasions, I have served as a member of national-level workgroups. While a member of NACCHO’s MCM Workgroup, we focused on Capabilities 8 (MCM Dispensing) and 9 (Medical Materiel Management and Distribution). Also, as a current member of NACCHO’s Surge Management Workgroup, we focus on Capabilities 5 (Fatality Management), 7 (Mass Care), and 10 (Medical Surge). With regard to my support of CDC initiatives, I am currently a member of CDC’s workgroup that is analyzing Capabilities 7 (Mass Care) and 10 (Medical Surge) for the purpose of supporting CDC’s expansion of the Operational Readiness Review (ORR) tool. During the second half of last year, I served on another CDC’s Workgroup, which was also supporting the expansion of the ORR, but for Capabilities 4 (Public Information and Warning) and 6 (Information Sharing).
Formal education: MA in Teaching/Curriculum and MPA, both of which were earned at California State University – Dominguez Hills. My BA in Human Services was earned at UCLA.
