Jonathan Yoder leads water preparedness and response for the Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, he works to develop and coordinate waterborne disease outbreak and response activities, including developing resources, tools and guidance for state and local health departments. These include the Drinking Water Advisory Communication Toolbox and the Emergency Water Supply Planning Guide for Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities. Previous work includes summarizing epidemiologic data on waterborne disease outbreaks and pathogens such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and the free-living amebae Acanthamoeba, Balamuthia and Naegleria fowleri. He has participated in or led investigations of waterborne disease and outbreaks associated with drinking water and recreational water, including Cryptosporidium in drinking and recreational water, Naegleria fowleri in tap water, and multistate outbreaks of Acanthamoeba keratitis associated with contact lens wear. During CDC’s COVID-19 response, he led the WASH and Mitigation Implementation and Technical Assistance teams
