Health Communications Coordinator
Philadelphia Department of Public Health
Brandon Horvath joined the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Bioterrorism and Public Health Preparedness Program as the Health Communications Coordinator in June 2018. In this role, Brandon serves as the Health Alert Network (HAN) Coordinator for PDPH and maintains the HAN listserv, which provides time-sensitive health information to approximately 4,500 healthcare providers and public health professionals in the Philadelphia area. Brandon also manages the Health Information Portal, a website that houses essential information related to disease reporting, surveillance, disease control guidance, and health alerts for the City of Philadelphia, and liaises with experts in PDPH to develop and revise content as needed. He also maintains a number of the Department's communications systems, including the Department’s internal employee notification system and 800MHz radios, in coordination with PDPH’s Information Technology Department, and conducts emergency communications drills to ensure that intra-agency communication can be sustained and all equipment is functioning properly. Brandon also assists in the training of PDPH staff to perform emergency communications tasks as a Coordinator for the PDPH Response Team, a cadre of 40 staff members that would be called upon to support the Department's response during a large-scale public health emergency. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Arcadia University and a Master of Public Health at Thomas Jefferson University.
