Jake Hurwitz is a second year medical student in Tulane University's MD/MPH program in New Orleans, Louisiana with a concentration in disaster management. Prior to beginning medical school, he worked as a project assistant with the City of New Orleans Health Department and most recently as a preparedness coordinator and Planning Section Chief with the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health. In these roles, Jake worked on a a wide variety of emergency preparedness projects including medical countermeasures, response to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, hurricane preparedness, and medical surge/MCI planning. Jake's research interests include international disaster medical response, alternative care sites, and pre-hospital and disaster medicine.
