Local delivery, and different alternate routes of administration for therapeutic agents can provide an effective, safe and convenient way for treating several diseases. This presentation provides an introduction to some of the local delivery strategies applied for the development of biopharmaceuticals. An overview on physiological and pharmacological aspects that drives the design and selection of biopharmaceuticals for local administration will be presented. In addition, formulation and device considerations that are important for efficient delivery of biopharmaceuticals will be discussed. Furthermore, PKPD approaches that can incorporate these different aspects to support design, development, and dosing of biopharmaceuticals through local delivery will be discussed.
