Wood Mackenzie forecasts over $75 billion will be invested in US offshore wind over the coming decade. But between Covid-19 and the 2020 election, this level of investment is at risk. This talk will present the key drivers and barriers impacting the Wood Mackenzie forecast, with a special focus on the impacts of public policy, both at the federal level (permitting, tax credits) and state level (targets, local content requirements, offtake mechanisms, solicitation schedules, transmission backbones). With an eye on the long-term, the talk will also draw upon the Covid-19 experience in global markets, and what that means for the resiliency of the nascent US industry.
