Head of Offshore Wind Business Development - NY and MidAtlantic Region
OW Ocean Winds
While there’s been a lot of progress made by the current offshore wind lease holders in developing the first commercial scale offshore wind projects in the U.S., the U.S. market has significant untapped potential on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts that can only be realized with more offshore wind leases. Call areas and Wind Energy Areas have been identified by BOEM off of six different states (New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, California, Hawaii); however, there’s no concrete timeline when any future auctions will be held, nor a timeline on when new areas may be identified. During this roundtable, we’ll chat with the developers who have invested significant time and resources in the U.S. offshore wind market and are seeking new leases, discussing where these developers see the most market potential, how new geographic markets could be successfully developed, what keeps them engaged in the U.S. market, and what mechanisms and policies would be most beneficial to see put into place as the next wave of offshore wind leases are identified and put on the auction block.
