Session Description: Special care dentistry includes care of different populations in a variety of settings, but shares in common that provider teams are prepared from both a training and environment perspective to make modifications to care to increase success for patients with special health care needs. The Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) was formed when members of three organizations, the American Association of Hospital Dentistry, the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry, and the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities, joined, realizing common challenges and goals. In this presentation, SCDA members who work in special care in settings of hospital, community and dental school, will describe how their program was developed, components of their business plan and model, and keys to success.
