10 - Venous Air Embolism. Is there ever an acceptable amount of AIL?
Wednesday, April 8, 2020
5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: Colorado B-D
We will explore what a VAE is, identify signs and symptoms, and early emergency treatment. I hope to encourage a collaborative discussion that includes individual clinical experiences, best practices, and preventative interventions that protect patients and clinicians.
Describe what a venous air embolism is to include identify what patients are more at risk, signs and symptoms, early identification, and emergency treatment.
List drugs/therapies that may contribute to increased AIL
Verbalize/demonstrate best practices to remove air from IV lines
Identify different types of filters, when to use and correct priming techniques
Describe education/clinical interventions in the home care environment that would help mitigate a delay in therapy, and/or loss of drug impacting cost to pharmacy.
Discuss how you would measure patient education retention regarding skills for identifying and removing AIL.
