Wire localization has been the historical technique to accomplish preoperative localization in breast imaging. Alternative options include radioactive seeds, radar reflectors, magnetic seeds and radiofrequency identification tags. Advantages of these wireless procedures include decoupling of the radiology and surgery schedules and avoidance of complications related to the wire localization procedure. Information will be presented in this session to empower breast centers to help decide which localizations will work best in their local environments.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the traditional wire localization technique for preoperative localization technique in breast imaging.
List known complications from the preoperative breast wire localization technique.
Describe the advantage of decoupling of radiology and surgery schedules with wireless breast localization techniques.
