203 - Gadolinium Deposition: Fact vs Fiction

Gadolinium chelates are used as contrast agents for MRI. Gd-based MRI contrast-agents are very well tolerated and associated with a uniquely advantageous safety profile. Current reports on "gadolinium deposition" have led to substantial insecurities about the clinical use of Gd-chelates. This lecture will summarize the current evidence and will help the audience understand the principle of Gadolinium retention. Bottom line is that macrocyclic Gd-chelates to not deposit in the brain, or elsewhere in the body

to describe the routes of gadolinium distribution in the human body
to explain the difference between gadolinium deposition and gadolinium retention
to list the current evidence on gadolinium associated disease
