Reaching underserved patients, particularly those who might experience obstacles accessing care, is challenging but it also makes good business sense. Learn evidence-based methods for reaching out and serving our underserved patients. Hear about techniques to build trust and enhance your engagement within the community while achieving your organization’s mission and goals.

ii. The business case: the smart thing to do
a. Assess before reaching out and serving underserved patients.
i. Research -- document groups most vulnerable to breast cancer (including participatory research)
ii. Learn and understand community history; why are some groups distrustful of medical / clinical institutions?
iii. Understand how your facility / system is viewed in the wider community
a.Learn evidence-based methods for reaching out and serving underserved patients.
i.Gain internal buy in--the breast center, the board, the rads and the system
ii. Create coalitions that are self sustaining
iii. Listen to and empower vulnerable groups to create healthier communities
