38 - “I’m Just Not Interested” Unpacking Desire as a Primary or a Secondary Problem

For women, hypoactive sexual desire disorder has been replaced in the latest version of the Disease and Statistics Manual (DSM-5) as sexual interest/arousal disorder. However, the occurrence of desire can be a primary issue or a secondary one. In this talk, we review sexual interest/arousal as part of female sexuality and discuss the evaluation for women who may present with this issue as a chief concern.

To describe sexual interest/arousal disorder.
To conduct a history and where necessary, an exam, to distinguish primary from secondary causes of a loss of desire.
To list potential treatments that might help address issues related to desire.
