54 - Techniques & Challenges in Breast Implant Based Reconstruction

During this talk I will start comparing the differences between the two most common techniques for implant based reconstruction: subpectoral and prepectoral. In addition, I will discuss the surgical outcomes of each one of these techniques.
Currently, one of the most popular techniques is prepectoral breast reconstruction, so I will make more emphasis on this technique, as it is what we offer most often at my institution and in other places around the country. I will explain the outcomes and risk factors of patients that undergo this technique in order then to compare which technique has the best surgical and functional outcomes.
Following, we will continue to compare patients with two-stage vs one-stage (direct to implant) breast reconstruction. Here I will explain clinical criteria to choose the right patient in order to reduce complication and improve surgical outcomes.
I will also discuss other techniques such as goldilocks procedures, immediate mastopexy during mastectomy, radiation protocols (when and how we approach these patients) and I will finalize with discussing which patients are not candidates for implant based reconstruction.
