Over the last several decades, the public health system has made immense progress in keeping the country safe and healthy. Local public health professionals are being recognized as experts on how to keep communities healthy; local health officials regularly communicate health concerns with policymakers and decision makers; and services have been benchmarked against national frameworks. But despite these achievements, local health departments still face new and ever-changing challenges, including the emergence of COVID-19. In light of these challenges, it’s important to explore how the landscape of public health will change moving forward. Elements of the town hall will discuss: • The way local health departments’ organize their work around the Essential Public Health Services and how that has changed during COVID-19; • The way work is conducted and what local health departments are missing; and • Promoting resiliency of workforce during and after a pandemic.
