Maritza C. Alencar has over 19 years of experience as a healthcare provider, educator, and leader. She serves as Director of Clinical Operations for the Comprehensive Treatment Units Advanced Practice Providers, High Risk Clinic, and Phase I Research Experimental Treatment Clinic throughout the University of Miami Health System. Maritza co-founded and co-directs the only Oncology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship program in the state of Florida. She was awarded as Transformational Leader of the Year for 2018.
Maritza is a board-certified adult nurse practitioner with expertise in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy. She established the first Long Term Care and GVHD Clinic in South Florida at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Adult Stem Cell Transplant Program. She has also played an integral role in standardization of practices through development of clinical practice guidelines and implementation of electronic health record tools via Epic.
Maritza earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Colorado, Denver and her MBA at University of Miami. She has held roles as Adjunct Clinical Professor at Florida International University, co-authored peer- reviewed publications and book chapters. Maritza is an active member of the American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, and board member for the Miami Dade Nurse Practitioner Council. She lives in Miami Beach with her husband, Alvaro Alencar, kids, Ana Sophia and Joaquim, and dog, Xico.
