Psychological treatments in minors with emotional and/or behavioral problems have shown a high efficacy level, however, the way to develop them, the strategies and techniques used to reach greater implication and adherence to treatment, as well as the decreased of suffering have been modifying over time. Some traumatic reactions treatment techniques are especially aversive, both for therapists and people with problems.
We have used a cognitive-behavioral based protocol and “The book of life” at the beginning and the end of therapy, to children in care with complex trauma by virtual reality system EMMA. We conducted a pre and post evaluation. Treatment lasts nine months.
Maladjustment and trauma measures scores decreased at the end of treatment. The effect size was high in the analyzed variables. We found differences in treatment adherence and in diverse variables when using virtual reality.
Virtual reality system EMMA-Child (Engaging Media for Mental Health) is an important tool for improving event exploration and past experiences related to the psychological problem, as well as for providing new and rewarding experiences. EMMA-Child allows performing the trauma exposition and elaboration with less suffering, increasing the treatment adherence and the link with the therapist.

Discuss how treatment strategies or techniques can influence children adherence or suffering decrease
Understand the implication of trauma experiences on treatment's characteristics
Observe how are new technologies been applied to trauma in EMMA-Child Program.
Analyse how our results can explain the virtual reality contribution to treatment.
