Objectives: To investigate whether stretched elastic tape changes posture and balance in the elderly.
Study design : Double-blinded Randomized Crossover Study
Settings : Rehabilitation Out Patient Clinic, Srinagarind hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khonkaen University
Subjects : Fifty years old or older people with degenerative kyphotic posture who already had ability to stand more than 30 minutes and walk at least 6 meters were recruited.
Methods : Ten elderly people with degenerative kyphosis participated in this cross-over design study. Two taping techniques were randomly applied: stretched elastic tape and unstretched elastic tape. After 1-hour washout period, they were switched to another condition. Angle of thoracic kyphosis was measured after each condition. Force plate-derived balance parameters, single leg stance, and time up and go test were recorded.
