We describe the case of a 34 years old male hemiparetic spastic, slight caudal predominance, classified on the Functional Ambulation Category scale as FAC 5.
He is able to walk without needs orthosis or assistance from third parties. He underwent 15 robotic therapy sessions with Lokomat®Nanos to verify the improvement of gait performance in relation to speed, distance covered and cadence. The training took place 2X per week, lasting 30 minutes each and the evaluation measures used 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and cadence. After cognitive examination with Montreal Cognitive Assessment was administered the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Short Form Health Survey 36 to evaluate psychological status. These measurements were performed at two moments, 1 (pre-intervention) and 2 (post-intervention). Pre intervention, he showed 6MWT 519m and a cadence 128 steps/minute. After the intervention, it was possible to observe improvement of the parameters in the 6MWT 560m, maintaining the cadence of 128 steps/minute. His coping strategies was the same as the initial with positive reassessment of his current condition like also his cognitive status.
In this case report, robot-assisted movement training improved not only gait endurance, but quality of life, social and emotional aspects.
