Gaming for NCLEX prep
The change in the NCLEX-RN® test plan in 2013 led to a decline in first-attempt pass rates in many nursing programs. An innovative approach to addressing the pass rate decline at our school included developing and implementing a senior NCLEX-RN review program. Part of this comprehensive preparation program used faculty-coached student teams who actively participated in gaming competitions in the final semester of their prelicensure nursing program. The alignment of games with nursing content promoted learning and increased the probability of knowledge becoming part of the students’ long-term memory. The benefits of coach-led gamification strategies, included an increase in on first-attempt NCLEX-RN pass rates.
