Murugesan Kumararaja is working as Secretary, Coir Board under the Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India from 2004 onwards. He is basically a Mechanical Engineer and also an MBA (Marketing) holder. He started his carrier as a Senior Scientific Officer/ Scientist at Central Coir Research Institute of Coir Board during the year 1989. He has a service of 30 more years in Coir Board and has vast knowledge in the field of processing and application of coir and coir products especially coir geotextiles, machinery developments and other Research & Development activities. He is responsible for carrying out the implementation of various Schemes being approved by Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India for the upliftment of coir industry in all over India. He is also responsible for undertaking all the statutory functions as required by the Coir Industry Act, 1953, convening Coir Board Meetings, performing various administrative functions like recruitment, promotion etc, preparation of budget allocation for the entire activities of Coir Board and utilisation of funds allocated under various heads and assist Chairman, Coir Board for framing policies and in the overall functions of Coir Board. Under his guidance the export of coir products has touched an all-time high record of 3.83 Million US Dollar during the year 2018-19, 7 lakhs above employment could be generated among coir industry, more than 16,000 coir units registered and about 40,000 artisans could be trained. Tremendous achievements could be made in the R & D including development of new machinery, technology and diversified products. Digital payments through DBT, implementation of E-Office etc. are implemented by him to avoid time delay and to reach the assistance to the concerned beneficiary itself.
