SIU Field Supervisor South Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance Company
This presentation will offer a more unique perspective on how the insurance industry investigates fires. The majority of carriers utilize third-party vendors to investigate fire claims. Only a few companies utilize “in-house” fire investigators. As an "in-house" fire investigator I will share this unique perspective, contrasting the advantages and disadvantages of both. Several case studies will be presented in support of the unique perspective.
As a voting principle of the NFPA 921 Technical Committee on Fire Investigations, I will discuss the application of NFPA 921 – Guide for Fire and Explosion Fire Investigations and NFPA 1033 – Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator to all who investigate fires for insurance companies.
We will discuss the engagement of third-party vendors, what you should be looking for in a fire investigator, and what your expectations should be, from them, throughout the investigation.
