Elissa Buie earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland, and a bachelor's degree in commerce from University of Virginia. Elissa is the past chair of the Foundation for Financial Planning and the Financial Planning Association, and is currently a dean for the FPA Residency program. She has published articles in the Journal of Financial Planning, and contributed 17 chapters to the CFP Board's "Financial Planning Competency Handbook." In October 2013, Elissa was awarded the prestigious P. Kemp Fain, Jr. Award, the profession's equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. She has been named as a top adviser by Washingtonian magazine and was named to Financial Times Top 100 Women Financial Advisers list in 2014. In 2015, Elissa was listed on InvestmentNews’ Women to Watch list. She is a distinguished adjunct professor at Golden Gate University’s Ageno School of Business, where she co-teaches the capstone cases in financial planning courses.
