We all have it, some of us use it, but few use it to its full potential. I’m referring to the measurement of ETCO2. The objective of this presentation is how to take those “expellings” and use them to their full potential. Our objectives will be to review the Physiology of CO2 production, transport in the blood and removal from the body via the lungs. I’ll then discuss the methods for measuring CO2 in the exhaled air, the normal capnogram, physiological and pathological factors affecting the capnogram, and finally clinical uses of this information.
