Dr. Stacy Brethauer is a bariatric surgeon and Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He attended the University of Colorado for his undergraduate degree and, after being commissioned in the Navy, received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University in 1993. He completed his general surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in 2001, his fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in 2007 and remained on the staff there until 2019.
He joined the faculty at OSU in March of 2019 as Vice Chair of Surgery for Quality and Patient Safety and the Medical Director of Supply Chain Management.
He is past president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He also co-chairs the Quality Committee of the American College of Surgeon’s Committee on Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is on several editorial boards, has published over 190 peer-reviewed papers, 40 book chapters, and has edited four textbooks on bariatric surgery.
