Training & Development Specialist ii
Sacramento Area Sewer District
Shelly Smith-Cortez has worked for Sacramento County since 2006, and holds several degrees, including the most recent Master’s in Educational and Instructional Technology. She brings an invaluable skill set to the Training Section, which have helped make the Sacramento Area Sewer District’s (SASD) training deliverables the gold standard in the sewer collections and treatment industry.
Her expertise includes associative learning, curriculum and program development, along with training and instructional design. She coordinates with agency directors, managers, supervisors, instructors, subject matter experts, outside agencies, and leadership professionals to create and facilitate training programs.
Shelly served as Co-Chairperson for the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Northern Regional Training Conference and takes pride in her award of the CWEA 2014 Educator of the Year.
Her most important role as wife and mother of four (including a deployed soldier) is what keeps her focused. Together, they enjoy traveling to many places but her favorite has been Ireland so far.
Shelly believes that the outcome can only be as good as the plan to get there. Engaging, connecting, and learning are the keys to personal and professional success.
