Peter Eckman, MD, FACC, FHFSA, FAHA is currently the Section Head of Advanced Heart Failure at the Minneapolis Heart Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Eckman graduated Magna cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College with a B.A. in physics. He then earned his M.D. and completed his residency and general cardiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Following an advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Eckman joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 2009 and served as the Medical Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiomyopathy Optimization Rehabilitation and Education (C.O.R.E.) clinic. He was promoted to Associate Professor and Section Head of Heart Failure in 2014. In 2015, he was recruited to lead the Advanced Heart Failure Program at the Minneapolis Heart Institute. Dr. Eckman has been particularly interested in the role of mechanical circulatory support for severe heart failure, and is an adjunct faculty member of the Earl E. Bakken Medical Devices Center at the University of Minnesota. In addition to his contributions to the literature, he is an incoming Section Editor for Mechanical Circulatory Support of ASAIO Journal, and is a reviewer for Circulation, Circulation: Heart Failure, JACC, JACC: Heart Failure, Journal of Cardiac Failure, and Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
