Dr. Schmidt is Professor Emerita of Pediatrics and Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Among her many awards, most notably in 2008 she received the Inaugural Clinical Trial of the Year Award for: Long-Term Effects of Caffeine Therapy for for Apnea of Prematurity from The Society for Clinical Trials and Project Impact. In 2015 she received the Member of the Order of Canada. More recently she received the following 2 awards; The Douglas K. Richardson Award for Perinatal & Pediatric Healthcare Research, Society for Pediatric Research (SPR). This award honors the lifetime achievement of a clinical investigator who has made substantive contributions to pediatric health care and health services research.
The Virginia Apgar Award, Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Given annually to an individual whose career has had a continuing influence on the well-being of newborn infants.
