Director, Solar Energy Assessments DNV GL San Diego, California
Presentation Description: DNV GL will present some key differences in how wind, solar and hybrid (solar plus storage and solar plus wind plus storage) projects are developed, how risk is assessed by the industry, and how various types of projects are financed. Specifically, differences in energy assessments from the perspective of an independent engineer will be presented for wind versus solar projects and hybrid combined projects, along with how developers approach project development for these projects. Highlights of of these comparison studies may include: driving sources of uncertainty, results of validations, market maturity, trends in development, whether developers pursue one type of project versus another (or both), methodology history, and more.
Methodology: DNV GL will present a standard powerpoint, likely with the inclusion of some aspect of crowd-polling (perhaps using an app like Slido, which we have used with success at the AWEA WRA conference in the past.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify how energy assessment methodologies differ between wind ,solar and hybrid energy assessments.
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify how risk and uncertainties differs between between wind, solar and hybrid energy assessments, and how that drives financing decisions and standards.
Upon completion, participants will be able to predict how the market will change in the coming years in terms of prevalence of wind versus solar versus hybrid projects, how financing these projects may change in the future, and how risk continues to evolve over time for wind and solar projects.
