Presentation Description: Weather is one of the top three reasons for missed milestones in the construction industry and built environment, with negative impacts costing billions of dollars. In an investment environment where margins are increasingly under pressure for wind energy projects, weather-enabled decision support solutions help to preserve and enhance economics across the total project lifecycle: from construction and commissioning, to operations and maintenance, to repowering and recommissioning. Innovative solutions empower contractors, owners and operators to improve situational awareness (SA) and make better-informed decisions about weather events, schedule impacts, safety risks and probable outcomes. By leveraging weather data, machine learning and predictive analytics, weather-enabled decision support solutions can evaluate over 500 predictive factors better than human judgment can evaluate five factors, without human interpretation, personal bias and decision traps of weather, safety, schedule, and risk.
Methodology: Methodology includes visual displays of weather-enabled decision support solutions, with examples of numerous wind energy projects and sites.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to identify wind energy industry best practices for weather-enabled decision support, to improve situational awareness (SA) and make better-informed decisions about weather events, schedule impacts, safety risks and probable outcomes.
Upon completion, participant will be able to understand how to enhance safety and manage risk with site- and asset-specific hazard and risk assessments including weather risk probability for construction activities, maintenance tasks, and equipment operations.
Upon completion, participant will be able to explain how to manage weather risks and mitigate schedule impacts to meet schedule
milestones and commercial operation dates (COD), and comply with performance measures under power purchase agreement (PPA) terms.
