Presentation Description: New York is a top US energy storage market and leads renewable integration with the recent Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act . Battery energy storage systems are the most promising technology needed to stabilize the challenges of renewables and distributed energy resources. Battery storage must become a mainstream resource to further help New York meet its 1,500 MW energy storage target by 2025 and 3,000 MW target by 2030. ABB’s Nodal Advisory team performed a case study for new battery energy storage capacity installations in the New York ISO, using ABB’s PROMOD® software-- a premier integrated electric generation and transmission market simulation system. The study evaluates the impact of different levels of storage penetration. Further, the study considers different points of interconnection for energy storage, such as pairing with renewables, locating at highly congested transmission lines or interconnecting at high demand substations.
Methodology:
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will have a clear understanding of the impact of different levels of storage penetration. They will also come away with critical insight into the different points of interconnection for energy storage such as pairing with renewables, locating at highly congested transmission lines or interconnecting at high demand substations.
