Social media is a common part of everyday life, so there is little surprise that it has become commonplace to investigations. However, there are capabilities within social media websites that are little-known within the child abuse investigation community. This lecture will detail how three specific social media searches can be used to enhance the investigation and prosecution of cases. Topics discussed will include: using the geocode: search in Twitter to find tweets from a specific latitude and longitude; using site in Google to search Reddit; and using URL manipulations in Facebook to find friends from a target profile. This workshop will only be recorded and available On-Demand from August 10, 2020 until December 31, 2020.
Learning Objectives:
Construct the syntax for a geolocation search in Twitter.
Build a Boolean string to complete a Reddit search using Google.
Use a URL manipulation to find Facebook friends by Facebook ID number.
