This advanced 2 day course will focus on the management of grade 3-4 medial patella luxation (MPL) and the management of combined patella luxation/cranial cruciate deficient stifles. The course is designed for the surgeon who has a basic comfort with stifle surgery and osteotomies/bone plating. Topics that we will discuss in detail and execute in the laboratory include CORA methodology as it pertains to patella luxation, corrective femoral osteotomies/ostectomies for treatment of MPL, corrective tibial osteotomies for treatment of MPL and options for treatment of MPL and concurrent cranial cruciate ligament rupture.
Following this two day course, the surgeon will be able to describe the primary etiologic causes and pathophysiology of patella luxation.
The surgeon will plan corrective osteotomies of grade 3-4 MPL pathologies.
The surgeon will correct femoral varus and tibial torsion pathologies on plastic bones and cadavers with distal femoral ostectomy (DFO) and proximal tibial osteotomy (PTO) and transfer this knowledge and skill to the clinical patient.
Following this two day course, the surgeon will have the knowledge and skill to manage patients with combine medial patella luxation and cranial cruciate ligament deficiency.
