Dr. Laura Bukavina is a urologic surgery resident at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Her special interests include epidemiology, urologic oncology and patient outcomes. She earned her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and her Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. In addition, she did a research fellowship at National Cancer Institute under guidance of Dr. Emenaker focusing of dietary modification of carcinogenic process prior to starting her urology residency. Dr. Bukavina has been successful in obtaining independent research funding including ACGME research grant, Dicke Research Grant as well as Coloplast Research Funding. Her background in epidemiology and statistics, has allowed Dr. Bukavina to work with numerous large databases including: NSQIP (National Surgical Quality Improvement Program), NIS (Nationwide Inpatient Sample), NCDB (National Cancer Database), NTDB (National Trauma Database), and SEER-Medicare. In addition, currently Dr. Bukavina is the co-PI on multi-institutional study looking at sequential prostatectomy outcomes focusing on 11 institutions, with 1200 prostatectomy patients, as well as co-PI on 6 ongoing prospective clinical trials at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
