Kara Watts, MD is Assistant Professor of Urology and Chair of Quality and Patient Safety at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical practice encompasses general and urologic oncology. She completed a one-year clinical-research fellowship in Quality and Performance Improvement through the Montefiore Nework Performance Group in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
She leads her department-wide image-guided fusion prostate biopsy program and has research interests focused on screening and detection of prostate cancer in high risk cohorts as well as development of programs for active surveillance of indolent prostate cancer and small renal masses. She is also pursuing the development of a prostate ablation program for prostate cancer at her insitution.
As Chair of Quality and Patient Safety for Urology, she developed and implemented a fast-track pathway for hematuria referrals within her department and has ongoing research endeavors focused at improving access to, quality of, and outcomes of care to patients. She is also evaluating the utility of Telemedicine in her institution's high risk, underserved demographic population.
