University of Maryland School of Medicine
My name is Ian Qian and I am a 2nd year medical student at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. I am involved in prostate cancer metabolomics research and pancreas transplant rejection biomarker research. I was awarded the PRISM Merit Award from University of Maryland School of Medicine to support my research in prostate cancer metabolomics.
Outside of research, I am interested in health policy. I was president for the Medical Student Section (MSS) of the AMA chapter at University of Maryland. I was also on the leadership board for the MSS of MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society. I represented my school as a delegate at the national and state House of Delegates meetings, authored resolutions for AMA and MedChi MSS, and started a travel scholarship at University of Maryland for students who want to attend AMA conferences.
Prior to medical school, I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2017 with a BS in Biochemistry. I was designated as a University Medal Finalist, which is the highest honor at the University for academic distinction, exemplary character, and service to the campus or public communities. During my 2017-2018 gap year, I worked at IMPAQ International as a healthcare policy consultant on an Affordable Care Act contract.
