Houston Methodist Hospital
Alexander Mackay, MD Urology resident PGY-3 at Houston Methodist Hospital.
I am a PGY-3 urology resident with interests in neurourology and management of neurogenic bladder. Much of my research has been within the field of neuroscience. In undergraduate, I worked in a basic science lab focused on using C. elegans as an animal model to map neurological processes such as Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In medical school, I again worked in basic science using cell culture to look at possible alternative treatments to demyelinating diseases such as selective estrogen receptor modulators. In residency I have begun to focus on clinical research with outcomes-based results, clinical trials, and translational research. I am fortunate to be in a residency program with wide exposure to complicated neurourology exposure, and this research project specifically will further enrich my experience with not only neurogenic bladder but also Transitional Urology (adult Urogenital Congenitalism). Long-term, I would like to stay in academic medicine, as I truly enjoy teaching and education.
