Yousef Zakharia, MD, is as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa, Division of Medical Oncology, and Co-Director of the Genitourinary Malignancies Program at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. His clinical and translational research has been geared towards experimental therapeutics in renal and bladder cancers. He currently serves as principal investigator on multiple clinical trials in different phases (I, II and III) and on steering committee for few international trials. Dr. Zakharia has been working on an investigator initiated clinical trial combining high dose Seleno-L-Methionine (SLM) with axitinib in metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) progressing on at least one prior line of therapy. Results of this phase 1 clinical trial are presented at the AUA 2020 Annual Meeting.
He is an author and co-author on multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts including New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Lancet Oncology among others.
Dr Zakharia is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer and the American Urology Association.
