The paper mainly focuses on the development status, equipment, software discussion, detection methods and online slab inspection technology applied at continuous casting machine. The network framework based on learning helped in development of state of art end-to-end mode inspection technology, which promotes the implementation of intelligent manufacturing in line with Q-4.0 framework at TATA Steel Kalinganagar. The work helped in real time data, reduced rework and customer compliance with near net shape product offerings. Apart from displaying the generated output data on real time basis, it is simultaneously stored in a file with time stamp as a record for future references.

The slab width is measured with the help of video analytics. The slab dimension, each frame of the video is processed with the help of analytical coding. The pixel value of the frame was calculated. The edge of the slab was then detected using an edge-detection methodology of open-cv platform.
A breakthrough in this field have been achieved with transformation of images to abstract dimensions, surface profile along with surface defects. Slab dimension and surface qualities were evaluated for online quality decisions through image analytics which has an absolute advantage in intellectualization, monitoring, convenience, efficiency and accuracy.
