I am a plant molecular geneticist working at Monsanto in St. Louis, Missouri. I am currently leading the development and implementation of the Regulatory strategy for New Breeding Techniques (NBTs), including genome editing. I have also previously worked developing tools for the control of insect pests in crops via topical dsRNA applications.
Prior to my move to industry, I worked at the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI), a US Department of Energy-funded Bioenergy Research Center, as Deputy Director for Grass Genetics. While at JBEI, I was also a Research Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the Physical Biosciences Division. During this time, I lead projects studying the biosynthesis and modification of grass cell walls using rice (Oryza sativa) as model system, aimed at getting a better understanding of grass cell wall biology in order to generate the knowledge necessary for the generation and improvement of lignocellulosic biofuel crops. I have a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from The Ohio State University, and did a postdoc jointly with JBEI and the University of California, Davis.
