Professor
Boyce Thompson Institute
After completing a Ph.D. in Microbiology in 1995, Georg Jander started his research on plant-insect interactions as a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital. Subsequently, he worked for four years as a scientist at the Monsanto Company before assuming a faculty position at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in 2002. He has an adjunct appointment in the School of Integrative Plant Sciences at Cornell University, where he contributes to both undergraduate and graduate student teaching. Jander's current research is focused on plant defense against aphids, in particular Myzus persicae (green peach aphid), one of most important vectors of viral diseases in vegetable crops, and Rhopalosiphum maidis (corn leaf aphid), which infests maize and other monocots. Jander also organizes an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates site (https://btiscience.org/education-outreach/internships/) that provides hands-on plant molecular biology research training to undergraduates and high school students each summer.
