Jane Silverthorne worked at the National Science Foundation (NSF) from August 1999 until her retirement in August 2017 in several capacities in the Directorate for Biological Sciences, including rotating and permanent Program Director for the Plant Genome Research Program, Deputy Division Director for the Division of Biological Infrastructure, Deputy Division Director and Division Director for the Division of Integrative Organismal Biology, and Deputy Assistant Director. From 1987 through 2004, Dr. Silverthorne was Assistant, Associate and full Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Silverthorne earned a B.Sc (Hons) from the University of Sussex and a Ph.D. from the University of Warwick. She currently serves as Senior Science Advisor for the SoAR Foundation, as SAB Chair and member of the Board for the Boyce Thompson Institute. Dr. Silverthorne is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.
