Van T. Luu joined the University of Düsseldorf and the Max Planck Institute for Plant breeding as a postdoctoral research associate and head genome editing team where she successfully established a CRISPR/Cas genome editing platform for both indica and japonica rice. This platform is being used to create broad-spectrum resistance rice to bacterial blight for Asia and Africa. Currently she is developing a transgene-free genome editing approach for rice. Van T. Luu did her Ph.D at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Germany where she studied different layers of plant defense against fungal pathogens: from phytohormone signaling to the production of secondary metabolites and the association of beneficial microbes (biocontrol). She is also a molecular breeder with experiences in the production of disease resistant and high-quality rice.
