Gail Taylor is Professor and Chair of the Department of Plant Sciences, UC Davis and is nominated to take up the John B Orr Endowed Chair in Environmental Plant Sciences in 2020. Her research moves from molecular plant biotechnology through to ecosystem functioning, currently focused on sustainable bioenergy systems and leafy green crops. For over twenty years she has been working on poplar a lignocellulosic feedstock for the emerging bioeconomy, including genetics, genomics and sustainability. Most recently she led the 23 partner EU network WATBIO to elucidate the genetic basis of drought tolerence in poplar for marginal land. Prior to Davis, Gail held a Chair at University of Southampton, UK and before that, posts at University of Sussex and Imperial College London. She is one of only ten Botanists that are The Annals of Botany Company, A Trust that owns and manages four scientific journals in support of Plant Sciences.
