Biological and Environmental Research / DOE
Dr. Weatherwax is the Associate Director of Science for Biological and Environmental Research (BER) within the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, the principal federal funding agency of the Nation’s research programs in high-energy physics, nuclear physics, fusion energy sciences, materials and chemical sciences, biological and environmental sciences, and computing sciences. BER's $700M annual budget supports transformative science and scientific user facilities to achieve a predictive understanding of complex biological, earth, and environmental systems for energy and infrastructure security, independence, and prosperity.Since joining the DOE in 1999, Dr. Weatherwax has managed a broad research portfolio including Energy Biosciences, the joint USDA-DOE Plant Feedstock Genomics for Bioenergy, the Bioenergy Research Centers, and the Joint Genome Institute.
Dr. Weatherwax received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCBerkeley and was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow in Plant Biology. She has been an ASPB member for over 20 years, and is a Fellow of AAAS.
