I did my PhD at CIMMYT (The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Mexico) under the supervision of Yves Savidan, working on the genetics of Apomixis in the genus Tripsacum. I then remained as a postdoctoral fellow at CIMMYT working on the resistance to S. hermonthica under a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation. I was subsequently hired by the Institut de Recherche pour le Développment (IRD), a French institute devoted to research for the tropical regions. I moved back to France in 2004, to lead a group working on the epigenetics of maize (with some Arabidopsis in the mix), with a focus on reproductive development and the role of heterochromatin in the process.
