Epigenetic Inheritance and Reprogramming in Plants.
Epigenetic inheritance is rare in mammals but common in plants, despite reprogramming of many epigenetic marks in the germline. In this symposium we will review epigenetic mechanisms that silence genes and transposons, and impact inheritance through meiosis and reproductive development. Small RNA biogenesis, chromatin remodeling, DNA and histone modification all contribute to heritable, but reprogrammable information that controls gene expression and chromosome function from one generation to the next.
