The Cultural Landscape Foundation
Birnbaum founded The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) in 1998 while a Loeb Fellow at Harvard’s GSD. Prior to creating TCLF, Birnbaum spent fifteen years as the coordinator of the National Park Service Historic Landscape Initiative and a decade in private practice in New York City, with a focus on landscape preservation and urban design. He has authored and edited numerous publications landscape architecture history and stewardship, and is a recognized authority on Modernism. Birnbaum is a recipient of the Rome Prize in Historic Preservation and Conservation, and, from ASLA, the LaGasse Medal, the President’s Medal and the ASLA Medal.
